Glen Beck Daffy Duck Looney Tune
Glen Beck is a certified Looney Tune. Ever since Obama got elected he has been trying to ferment a right wing revolution and a violent dismantling of this country. He has a large audience of followers so maybe he can pull it off. Most radio/TV talk show hosts say outrageous things in order to stimulate a discussion and create interesting programming. Glen is different, he seriously believes his own rhetoric. He started off trying to delude us but ended up deluding himself and has now taken off into his own private Looney Tune.
Howard Beale reborn. Mad as hell and he can’t take it anymore. An apostle of the idealism of a bygone era long ago proven to be a false perception of human dynamics and of a politics that in practice doesn’t work. Stuck in Reaganville and he can’t get out. Reagan lived in his own fairy tale; a Camelot he thought was America. He was Sir Lancelot fighting mythical red dragons that only he could see but were not really there. Glen has taken up the quest but his red dragons have breached the castle gates. Mordred is seated on a black horse and his sword has been drawn from its scabbard. The battle has been joined. Camelot itself is at stake.
In the movie Network Howard Beale’s employers knew he’d gone insane but smirk at the reaction he gets and the ratings he generates. They leave him on the air even though he gets wackier and sicker with each ensuing program. It is the behind the scenes smirk of the ones who are putting something over on us while making a bundle of money on this farce.
We are living in the world of Network now. Things are getting sicker it seems every day. Glen Beck is the living thermometer of our illness. His popularity increases as the sickness spreads and flourishes. His network likewise knows he’s crazy. They can’t help but crack a smile when they see this lunatic go on the air. It is a joke and one has to smile in disbelief. Nobody could possibly keep a straight face. They will take the money as long as they can get away with it so the show goes on.
Glen, listen to me. Obama is not the problem. All the damage was done long before the election. He’s just cleaning up the mess left behind by that once and future Reaganite, George Bush, who reigned for eight years without ever realizing that he was actually suppose to do something when he showed up for work in the morning. That is when he did show up for work. King Bush’s Camelot was so mystical that it did not require maintenance. Its greatness was perfection and perfection cannot be improved upon or produce less than great results. That delusion nearly destroyed us. Greatness is an ongoing endeavor, when you stop putting in the work to achieve it you fall back into mediocrity or even worse.
Glen, your politics was put to the test and it resulted in a near disaster. Eight years of letting the free market run free while you looked the other way produced the predictable results. It emptied out the cupboard and didn’t even leave behind the dog biscuits for us to get by on. Greed is a wonderful thing if you’re in on the deal and not the one being scammed. Let’s just call it the lost decade and promise not to do it again.
Glen, your dreams are shattered and it is time to wake up. You can’t go back to sleep, it’s over. This is the time when we pick up the broken pieces and try to put Humpty Dumpty back together again. Are you going to help or are you just going to stand by and hope you get the chance to push him off the wall again.

Will you say that again, please?
