Rudy Giuliani Disaster Profiteer ABC George Stephanopoulos Interview

By Mike Hammer (alias the peasant)

RudyRepublicans have got want they wanted. Not quite really, but close enough. They have been waiting in ambush for a terrorist attack so they can rush out into the open screaming Obama is not keeping America safe. The Christmas day Detroit airliner bombing attempt is all that it took to elicit this madness from Rudy Giuliani as told to ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on Friday:

“What he should be doing is following the right things that Bush did,” Giuliani said. “One of the right things he did was treat this as a war on terror — we had no domestic attacks under Bush; we had one under Obama.”

Republicans really believe this lie. The 9/11 attacks occurred on their watch so saying there were no domestic attacks is a lie. But that’s not the point. National security is the only issue the Republicans have. They dismiss all domestic issues as outside the realm of government authority. But building up the military and using it is the one area of governance where they are willing to take action.

The party of “NO” and obstructionism is irreverent unless there is a war in progress. So naturally now that we have one this is their chance to have the spotlight shine on them, and they intend to take every advantage of this opportunity. But fame when it comes in the face of tragedy and death is more abhorrent than glorious. To use a terrorist attack as a steppingstone to credibility is disgraceful.

Being a frequent flyer, I’m not as interested in the potential advancement of the Republican Party as I am in keeping my arms and legs attached to the rest of my body. This shameful bragging at the near loss of 300 lives in an airplane explosion is despicable. It is also very effective which is why Giuliani had no problem doing it. He’s interested in the political capital to be had and not in the civility we expect from our elected representatives.

I’m interested in reason and sanity but it’s hard to come by when the likes of Rudy Giuliani take the stage. How does a nut like this get away with saying these things on network television during a Stephanopoulos interview? More importantly, why did ABC invite him on knowing he was going to say it and then not be prepared to challenge him when he did?

Somebody has got to stand up to these ideological psychopaths and label them for they are rather than give them airtime as prestigious commentators on current events. A freak’n nut is a freak’n nut and let’s not pretend otherwise.

NEW RULE: No disaster profiteering on primetime network news programs. I don’t think that’s asking for too much, do you?
