Tom Brady has returned and his performance in the preseason proved that he hasn’t lost anything from missing last year. Randy Moss still looks to be a great receiver who will demand double coverage. This of course leaves Wes Welker open underneath and across the middle.

They have the most explosive offense in football, and are almost unstoppable. The offensive line is experienced and solid enough to both protect Brady and to establish a running game. They have a handful of proven hardnosed runners which include the newly added Fred Taylor.

Defensively they are transitioning to younger players and have two new starting cornerbacks. They have drafted heavily into their secondary the past two years, but their starters will be newly acquired free agents Leigh Bodden and Shawn Springs. The defensive line has two pro bowl caliber players in Vince Wilfolk and Ty Warren. The linebacker situation is a mystery with the loss of Mike Vrabel and Teddy Bruschi. The problem is mostly on the outside since this is where their pass rush comes from and it doesn’t look like they have a pass rushing linebacker.

This team is all about offense so they can probably win without defensive pro bowlers. They have enough fire power to outscore any other team in football. It will be between the Patriots and the Steelers. The Steelers are more physical, but their offense tends to sputter and it can’t match the Patriots.

The Patriots will be playing Monday night at 7:00. You should watch, Brady and Moss will put on a show that is the most awesome in football today.

As a member of Red Sox Nation I have to express my outrage over what the Yankees did this year to ruin the season for the rest of the American League. By buying up super heroes from teams who could not match the Yankees’ pot of gold offers, they sealed up the pennant and destroyed the chances my beloved Red Sox had of competing for a division championship. The division race was over a long time ago and there is still three weeks left in the season.

They stole Mark Teixeira from us during the free agent signing season by waiting for us to do all the negotiating and paperwork and then stepped in as Mark was about to sign to with a higher offer. Teixeira’s agent planned to do this all along. He was using the Red Sox to establish the Yankees’ offer.

But the Yankees didn’t stop there. They desecrated the shirt of David Ortiz, which they found buried in the foundation of their new stadium, thus exorcising the curse we cast against them. They turned Manny Ramirez against us by hinting they had big money waiting for him if he could break out of his Sox’ contract. Manny proceeded to behave so badly that the Sox kicked him out of town. The Yankees didn’t sign him, but we lost a hall of fame slugger.

Now that the Yankees have decided to hell with developing our own talent, let’s just buy everybody else’s, we may never be able to win a pennant again. All we can do is fight for a wildcard spot and hope for a miracle.

If you Yankees win the World Series this year does it really count? Will there be an asterisk in the record books with a footnote that reads “this championship was sponsored and paid for by the Steinbrenner family”? When Yankee fans watch these games do they consider it real baseball? You’re just kidding yourselves.

Anyway, I miss Joe Torre. He was a decent man and a great manager. Will Derek Jeter ever get old? I keep waiting for him to disappear but he keeps coming back. Good luck Yankees, even though you don’t need it.
